Undeclared work in the construction industry
Customs controls also in Krefeld – an arrest

The Krefeld customs have uncovered an organized form of undeclared work in the construction industry. On Tuesday, 23 searches took place at the same time.

In the early hours of the morning, on behalf of the Krefeld public prosecutor’s office, more than 100 forces from customs and the Düsseldorf tax investigation department searched a total of 23 residential and business premises at the same time, the police said. An arrest warrant was carried out. The searches took place in Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Aachen.

The police said that criminal activities by the suspected group of perpetrators in the construction industry were uncovered. Six accused are accused, among other things, of withholding and embezzling wages in a particularly serious case.

Through a complex network of various service companies, so-called straw man companies, the accused succeeded in covertly paying the illegal workers employed by means of large cash withdrawals, bogus invoices and manipulation of the bookkeeping. This caused damage of around one million euros.

An arrest warrant was carried out against one of the alleged perpetrators of the illegal employment network. This is a 44-year-old man. The five other accused are men between the ages of 32 and 51.

The forces deployed were able to secure extensive evidence, including computers and cell phones, which are evaluated by special forces from the customs office for IT forensics.
