The Ukrainian shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant exposes Europe to the danger of a nuclear catastrophe, declared the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov to his French counterpart.

The safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, currently controlled by the Russian army, was at the heart of the telephone conversation between the Russian and French foreign ministers.

Forces loyal to Kyiv continue to use weapons supplied by Western countries “to bomb civilian and infrastructure facilities, including the nuclear power plant [de Zaporojié] and thus expose Europe to the danger of a nuclear catastrophe”, remarked Sergei Lavrov to Catherine Colonna.

In addition, the head of Russian diplomacy once again stressed the need for an immediate and complete cessation of shelling of the plant. The importance of conducting “an objective investigation into deliberate strikes” was also highlighted by Mr. Lavrov.
