Lebanese Defense Minister Maurice Slim said on Friday that the army will face any abuse that could threaten public order in the country.

“The military institution will prevent any abuse that could cause unrest or threaten public security,” Slim said during his meeting with President Michel Aoun at the Baabda presidential palace, east of Beirut.

According to a press release from the Lebanese Presidency, the meeting between Aoun and Slim focused on the security situation in the country, after the events that occurred Thursday in the Tayouneh district in Beirut, and the role played by the army in restoring peace. security and stability.

“During the meeting, the two sides discussed the need to speed up the ongoing investigations to identify the perpetrators, and hold them accountable to justice,” the statement added.

The toll of the clashes in Beirut has increased to 7 dead and 32 injured, some of whom are in critical condition, the Lebanese Red Cross said on Friday.
