Leonel Rodríguez, the national champion, won the 5th stage

Leonel Rodríguez, CC Cerro Largo cyclist and brand new national road champion, was the winner of the fifth stage of Rutas de América 2023 that this Tuesday joined Ombúes de Lavalle with Santa Lucía, in a total distance of 176 kilometers.

The day was marked mainly by the fight of the packages for the special prizes, classifications that are very even by averaging Rutas de América.

All escape attempts were annulled by a squad that did not let the adventurers make much difference, determined to reach Santa Lucia without escaping.

The peloton of Routes of America 2023

The peloton reached the finish line without allowing the last escape of nine cyclists to prosper, four of them from the Club Alas Rojas de Santa Lucía, who fought to win in their city, without it being possible.

At the arrival of the compact peloton, Leonel Rodriguez, of CC Cerro Largo, the current national route champion, was charged over Pablo Anchieri, of Nautico Boca del Cufré, and Ignacio Maldonado, of Union 33 Vergara.

In the main positions of the General, there were no important changes and Matías Presa continues to lead the classification.

This Wednesday stage 6 will be joining the city of Canelones with Sarandí del Yi, taking place along Routes 11, 7 and 41. It will be the longest of the race with 196 km 400 meters.
