Les Flammes, equivalent of Victories rap version, unveils its first edition

Rap is also entitled to its Victoires de la Musique. The first edition of Les Flammes, organized by YARD, Booska-P and Smile, will be held at the Théâtre du Châtelet, in Paris, on May 11, 2023. A first press conference has already been held in October to present the event, explain its mode of operation and give its main objectives. And the first is simple: to reward those forgotten in more traditional ceremonies and to honor “popular cultures”. JUL, Aya Nakamura, Ninho and even Gazo may be among the top 10 most listened to artists on Spotify, but they are only very rarely invited to ceremonies such as the Victoires de la Musique. The streaming platform is sponsoring the event for this first edition. During the press conference, Antoine Monin, director of Spotify France, recalled the importance of “promote French music in all its forms”.

But who says ceremony says votes, and here they take place in three stages: first, the labels and producers selected register their candidates in the different categories. Then the pre-selection takes place. The list of pre-appointed is sent to journalists of specialized media as generalists. They then have three days to select 10 nominees per category. The third and final stage concerns the public and the jury. The public can vote using a fun digital platform created especially for the occasion. And in order not to favor the artists most in demand by the general public, each voter can determine their top 3 of the best artists in each category. The jury is equal and composed of 24 professionals, whose names will be revealed after the votes.

For this first edition, Amadou Ba, Yohan Prat, Tom Brunet and Galo Diallo, the organizers, have chosen to reward musical projects dated between January and December 2022. And for “to be as free as possible” et “do the ceremony without constraints”they also decided “to offer a totally digital live broadcast”.
