Samsung and LG are preparing their factories for mass production of the first iPads with OLED displays, ETNews reported.
The source describes the screens as “hybrid” panels, using a combination of flexible and rigid OLED technologies.
Apple plans to introduce new 13-inch MacBook Air, 11.1-inch iPad Pro and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays in 2024, multiple analysts have confirmed.
iPad Pros are expected to use “dual-battery” OLED displays with dual red, green and blue emission layers for increased brightness. There is also talk of the presence of ProMotion technology for a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
All iPads and MacBooks currently shipping have backlit LCD displays, while OLED displays have self-emitting pixels and require no backlighting, allowing for a higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy, and reduced energy consumption. Apple already uses OLED screens for the latest Apple Watch and iPhone models, with the exception of the iPhone SE.
