LGP Asks Jokowi to Remove Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan Cs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Laskar Ganjar-Puan (LGP) asked President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to remove ministers who voiced questions about postponing the election and extending the presidential term. They considered that the voice of Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan cs only made a scene before the start of the fight for the 2024 General Election.

“The statement about the postponement of the 2024 election which is contrary to the constitution. This will make the political temperature even more heated. The minister who makes such issues needs to be reshuffled. If not, Pak Jokowi may experience political turbulence this year,” said the chairman of the Board of Trustees. LGP, Mochtar Mohamad, through his official statement, Thursday, April 14, 2022.

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has openly supported the discourse of postponing the 2024 General Election. He claims to have Big Data analysis which states that the majority of Indonesian netizens agree if the election is postponed. However, Luhut was reluctant to reveal further about the data.

A similar claim was made by the Chairman of the National Awakening Party, Muhaimin Iskandar. In addition, the idea of postponing the election was also supported by the Chairperson of the National Mandate Party, Zulkifli Hasan, and the Chairperson of Golkar as well as the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

The issue of the rejection of big data resurfaced after Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan visited the University of Indonesia (UI) on Tuesday, around 11.00 am to fill a lecture at the UI Convention Center.

Outside the building, students from BEM UI held a demonstration by unfurling banners and giving speeches. They insinuated Luhut with Big Data, which was always thrown about delaying the 2024 election.

After giving a lecture for about 1.5 hours at the UI Convention Center, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan also met the BEM UI students who were outside the building. Luhut challenged the students to have a dialogue.

The student representatives then questioned the big data issue that Luhut previously claimed. “Our problem is in big data, please open the big data, is there any,” said the student.

However, Luhut refused to respond to the question.

“Listen, I have the right not to share it with you, why make a fuss, you have to learn democracy in the future,” said Luhut.

Luhut also asked the students not to be emotional when talking to him. “I have children as well as students, so don’t be emotional,” said Luhut.

The students were increasingly attacking Luhut. But the conversation had made Luhut angry because the students called him authoritarian.

“Listen, you young people, you have no right to sue me. Because I also have the right not to tell,” said Luhut.

Mochtar also responded to the debate between Luhut and the students. He stated that the political atmosphere ahead of the 2024 general elections would be heating up. He also assessed that Luhut’s statement would further escalate the situation.

“The statement by one of the coordinating ministers about ‘big data’ has made the political situation even more acute,” said the chairman of the LGP Advisory Council, Mochtar Mohamad, in a statement, Thursday, April 14, 2022.

President Jokowi was said to be planning a cabinet reshuffle in recent times. This was done to give seats to PAN, which had recently joined the governing coalition but had not yet received a ministerial seat. In addition, Jokowi also briefly expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of a number of ministries.
