The Sony Xperia 10 IV is here. The least expensive smartphone from the Japanese manufacturer relies on a 5000 mAh battery for a featherweight of 161 grams, all with the design and philosophy that we know.
As we know, Sony loves to offer over-equipped Xperia phones, but also rather classified as premium and therefore relatively expensive, such as the Xperia 1 IV and its optical zoom. Fortunately, the Japanese manufacturer also offers a series more focused on the mid-range and its latest model has just been announced. This is the Xperia 10 IV.
It may cost a little less than 500 euros, Sony did not make fun and knew how to equip its phone with convincing elements. We can mention a large 5000 mAh battery, coupled with a weight of only 161 grams, or a robustness ensured by the IP 65/68 certification and a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
The 6-inch Full HD + OLED screen adopts the famous 21: 9 ratio so dear to Sony, which avoids black bands on certain formats, in particular cinema. Too bad that the latter is confined to a refresh rate of 60 Hz, but we have to make concessions.
On the back, we find the discreet oval photo module with its three sensors, a main one of 12 megapixels and two others of 8 megapixels, coupled with 16, 27 and 54 mm lenses. They are helped by optical and software stabilization for video as well as automatic HDR shooting and a night mode. Sony also promises simplification for the average user, sometimes lost in its sometimes too technical applications.
Design and sound part worthy of Sony
On the design side, Sony takes up the classics of its range here, with its rectangular look and flat edges. We also find the 8 megapixel selfie sensor confined to the upper edge of the screen, which avoids the presence of a punch or a notch, the jack on the top edge. On the other hand, the Xperia 10 IV ignores the shutter button for the camera.
Who says Sony says special attention to audio as usual. The Sony Xperia 10 IV thus integrates Hi-Res, Hi-Res Wireless or even LDAC technology. We should also mention the presence of DSEE Ultimate, a technology which, in theory, uses AI to “Reproduce the subtle acoustic detail and sharpness of high-frequency sounds in real time, elements often sacrificed in audio compression”, writes the builder. 360 Reality Audio is also integrated.
Let’s finish with the chip. It’s a Snapdragon 695 5G, one of Qualcomm’s latest mid-range chips, which promises a significant boost in graphics performance. This SoC equipped with a Wifi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 modem. The Sony Xperia 10 IV runs Android 12.
Price and availability
The Xperia 10 IV will be on sale from mid-June 2022 at a price of around 499 euros. Four colors are available: black, white, mint green and lavender.
