Ligue 1: Rennes outclass Bordeaux 6-0

After three consecutive defeats in Ligue 1, Rennes largely won on Sunday at home against Bordeaux (6-0), reduced to ten in the second period, during the 21st day.

Perhaps the end of the bad patch: chased from the L1 podium and eliminated in the Coupe de France, Rennes regained 4th place by crushing 6-0 from Bordeaux in crisis and reduced to 10 in the second period, Sunday during the 21st daytime.

Bordeaux, undermined by the cases of Covid-19 and by the sidelining of captain Laurent Koscielny, promised to leave before the end of January, sees the red zone getting closer and closer and will have to resume Sunday against Strasbourg.

It’s hard to say if Rennes have found a defense as the Bordeaux attackers have been deprived of balls, but Bruno Genesio’s men have finally recovered the success that was fleeing them up front.

Like Gaëtan Laborde, silent since the end of November, and even Serhou Guirassy, who had not scored in L1 since August and had seemed to be pursued by bad luck in the Coupe de France.

Without necessarily shining, the Rennais took the lead from the start of the match. For half an hour, the Bordeaux defense held, Stian Gregersen (6th) then Ricardo Mangas (31st) taking turns to support Benoît Costil by repelling shots on their line.

But Rennes found the fault on a corner from Benjamin Bourigeaud pushed back by Mexer: in the confusion of the area, Jonas Martin managed to slip the ball to Martin Terrier, who opened the scoring with an unstoppable strike (1-0, 33rd).

Bourigeaud was responsible for doubling the lead with a superb direct free kick from 25m. Perfectly brushed, the ball went around the wall to lodge along the post, very far from Costil who did not flinch (2-0, 43rd).

Returning from the locker room, the Bordelais seemed more indecisive, but they quickly lost Issouf Sissokho, excluded on a second yellow card for a late tackle, after a high foot in the first period (50th).

Rennes then unfolded… After several clear missed opportunities, Laborde finally restarted his counter with a shot between the legs of Costil, on a ball recovered by Jérémy Doku in the feet of Gregerson (3-0, 61st).

Then came the turn of the substitutes, when Lovro Majer, barely entering the game, fixed Costil on the right side before serving Adrien Truffert in front of a free goal (4-0, 69th).

And Guirassy, who entered in the 75th minute, scored twice in the last minutes, first on a heel from Laborde (5-0, 89th) then by taking a shot from the same Laborde repelled by the defense (6-0, 90th +2).

A return to form to be confirmed next week in Clermont, victim in September of the awakening of Rennais (6-0) after a first bad pass.
