Square Enix is pleased to announce that the award-winning HD 2D RPG LIVE A LIVE on April 27, 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and appearing on PC via Steam1. LIVE A LIVE Released last year as an HD 2D Remake for Nintendo Switch, it’s a story-focused HD 2D RPG from Team Asano that’s featured through titles like OCTOPATH TRAVELER, BRAVELY DEFAULT II and TRIANGLE STRATEGY gained notoriety.
LIVE A LIVE offers players the freedom to explore eight different stories featuring eight different characters, each living in different ages, from prehistoric times to the wild west and beyond. Each unique chapter contains a set of specific gameplay mechanics to master, such as stealth passages, suspense and trap setting, each at the heart of the turn-based combat system of LIVE A LIVE stand. Players can tailor their adventure to their preferences, thanks to the episodic format, they can complete the chapters in any order, or even play parts of each chapter in parallel.
LIVE A LIVE was made by Takashi Tokita (CHRONO TRIGGER and FINAL FANTASY IV) produced, the game director of the original for Super Nintendo. The title has been remastered with HD 2D technology that combines the nostalgia of pixel art with modern graphics, offering a classic RPG gaming experience with updated graphics for PS4, PS5 and PC. Players can also look forward to a rearranged version of the soundtrack, re-recorded under the direction of the original’s composer: Yoko Shimomura (FINAL FANTASY XV, KINGDOM HEARTS-Row).
A free demo is also available now on PlayStation Store and Steam. In the LIVE A LIVEdemo, players can experience the beginnings of three of the eight in-game narratives: The Wild West, Dawn of Edo-Japan, and The Far Future. After purchase, players on PlayStation and Steam2 transfer their saved progress to the full game3 and continue their game from the point they reached in the demo.
LIVE A LIVE will be available digitally on April 27th, 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and via Steam on PC. The game is available for pre-order starting today on the PlayStation Store and Steam. At launch, there is a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers who pre-order the game before the April 27, 2023 release and for Steam players who purchase the game before May 11, 2023.
