THE “MONDIAL” DE PÉTANQUE LAUNCHED IN MARSEILLE
Despite the coronavirus, the “Mondial La Marseillaise à pétanque” will hold its 59th edition from August 30 to September 2 in Marseille with strict precautionary measures, but in the absence of Asian and South American players.
“Clearly this year, there will be no players from China, Japan, South America”, due to travel restrictions linked to the global coronavirus pandemic, explained Pierre Guille, president of this emblematic event in Marseille. Despite everything, more than 2,150 teams have already registered, coming from all over France but also from Germany, Italy and Switzerland in particular, he said at a press conference in Marseille. African players could also join the competition.
Last year, 4,560 three-person teams, men, women, seasoned players and amateurs, participated in the event launched in 1907.
