Los Angeles County’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose slightly to 5.3% in June, from a revised 5.2% in May, according to the latest figures released by the state Employment Development Department.
The 5.3% rate was well below the 9.7% rate in June 2021. In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted figures were not available, the June unemployment rate was 2.9%, down from 2.4%. of May.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2% in June, down from 4.3% in May and down from the 7.9% rate in June 2021. Comparable estimates for the nation were 3.6% in June, 3.6% in May and 5.9% in June. from last year
According to the state Employment Development Department, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 9,500 jobs between May and June to more than 4.5 million. The leisure and hospitality sector led the way by adding 5,200 jobs.
