Bathing lakes are popular. A ranking shows for which a trip is particularly worthwhile – including to Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg.

Lower Saxony/Bremen/Hamburg – Bathing is fun – all the more so when there is a suitable bathing lake where visitors can experience not only the most pleasant water possible, but also an all-round successful range of activities. The online portal “reise magazin” has put together 14 lakes throughout Germany that are particularly beautiful – and clearly summarized their advantages.

In 5th place – and thus number 1 in the north-west – is the editorial department the Steinhude Sea chosen. Located northwest of Lower Saxony, the largest lake in Lower Saxony has always attracted many visitors. Swimming is particularly easy on an artificially created bathing island in Steinhude, which is usually open until nightfall. There are also two sandy beaches in the north of the lake, including a nudist area.

the Steinhude Sea, which is also regularly mentioned in other top lists, also offers space for sailing, surfing and boating. Admission is free, there are both showers and toilets, and you can easily get here by car or bus. No dogs are allowed on the bathing island itself. A bistro is open to all guests, and a playground offers variety for families. Every year in August, the event “Steinhuder Meer in Flammen” takes place with a large fireworks display.

Bathing lake ranking also mentions Mahndorfer See and Öjendorfer See

In Bremen, the ranking was particularly impressive the Mahndorfer See. The body of water was created during the construction of the highways there and has a long sandy beach. Areas for non-swimmers and nudists are marked there. A kiosk is available to visitors. Toilets are also available.

Access to the site and bathing are free of charge at the Mahndorfer See. Barbecuing is permitted on the near-natural body of water. With a depth of up to 15 meters, the lake also offers the opportunity to dive. In water tests, the lake generally performs well and is therefore unreservedly recommended as a bathing lake. The lake is in 10th place in the ranking.

Recommended for Hamburg the top list from “reise magazin” the Öjendorfer See. Sand was removed from its current location in the 1920s to raise the Horner Marsh. Two bathing areas are designated for bathers. Sandy beach and lawns are available there. Kiosks and snack bars are accessible to visitors directly on site.

Swimming at the Öjendorfer See is possible free of charge, showers and toilets are available. The lake is located in the extensive Öjendorfer Park and serves the city on the Elbe as a retention basin and bird sanctuary. There is also a mini golf course, barbecue areas and other play facilities. A non-swimmer area is designated. Despite all the advantages, the city of Hamburg points out that blue-green algae can sometimes form and that there is no bathing supervision.
