Start of summer vacation: be careful on the streets
Hanover (dpa / lni) – At the start of the summer holidays, Lower Saxony’s Interior Minister Boris Pistorius, together with the ADAC, the state traffic watch and the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, warned to be careful in road traffic. “Start your journey relaxed, drive carefully and be particularly considerate of everyone else in traffic,” said the SPD politician on Wednesday. For the schoolchildren in Lower Saxony and Bremen, the six-week vacation begins this Thursday.
The interior ministry said there could be a high volume of traffic on the streets of Lower Saxony at the beginning of the holiday and in the following weeks because Lower Saxony and two other neighboring federal states are starting the summer holidays. The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe advised the correct behavior in slow traffic. “At the first signs of a traffic jam, you should drive particularly carefully and form an emergency lane immediately,” said Hannes Wendler, state board member of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe. Especially in emergency situations, every second counts and this can make the difference between life and death.
