Lyashko announced the decision of Kiev to stop purchasing electricity from Russia
Former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, head of the "Radical Party" Oleg Lyashko said that Kiev made a political decision to stop the purchase of Russian electricity. He announced this on his Facebook.
Lyashko noted that it will soon become known about how the solution will be implemented in practice: by amending the legislation, a resolution of the Ukrainian government, or some other decision. The politician also said that due to the “Russian expansion” into the energy market of Ukraine, the country lost several billion hryvnias.
Earlier, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Yevgeny Muraev said that the energy sector of the Ukrainian economy will be “hit hard” by cheap Russian coal.
Ukraine imported electricity due to a deficit of its own, however, in 2015 it refused to import, as it filled the deficit. In October this year, Russia resumed electricity supplies to the country. According to a source in RBC, Ukraine was forced to return to import by coal problems for TPPs due to the situation in the east of the country.
