MacOS Monterey users reportedly encounter connectivity issues with USB hubs

San Francisco: Several users who updated to macOS Monterey complain that USB devices, including hubs and docking stations, do not work after upgrading.

macOS Monterey is the next version of Apple’s desktop and laptop operating system that replaces the previous macOS Big Sur and was introduced with the latest updates to the Apple ecosystem in June during WWDC 2021 .

Some users have noticed that macOS Monterey especially causes problems with USB 3.0 devices. For some people, their USB hub doesn’t work at all, while for others, the hub’s HDMI and USB-C ports continue to work.

“I cannot connect a trackball or keyboard through the hub’s USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports to the Air since the Monterey installation. The hub’s VGA port still works in Monterey; I haven’t been able to test other ports yet. Plus another hub (with less) running Ports…), ”one user wrote on the Apple Developer Forum.

“The USB-C hub is having issues with this update. The HDMI port connected to my second monitor works on the hub but none of the USB3 ports work at all. I have tried different C ports on my MacMini and different hubs (I have 4), ”said another user.

Users reported the issue on Apple’s developer forums dating back to July, when macOS Monterey was in beta.

One user reports that “The USB-C hub is having issues with this update. The HDMI port connected to my second monitor works on the hub but none of the USB3 ports work at all. “

In a few cases, USB hubs seem to work, the power port does not work, while for some, additional connection to external displays fails.
