MALI              Wounded French soldiers: Daesh-linked group claims attack

The jihadist organization of Adnan Abu Walid Sahrawi, who has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, claimed on Friday a series of attacks in the Sahel, including against French and American military, in a statement relayed by the Mauritanian private agency. ANI (Nouakchott Information Agency). The group thus proclaims its “responsibility in the attack against an American commando in October in Niger, in the region of Tongo Tongo” as well as against the one that struck Thursday the French force Barkhane in Mali. Three French soldiers of Operation Barkhane were wounded in the attack on Thursday with the car bomb targeting them, between Indeliman and Menaka, in eastern Mali. “A vehicle approached the convoy and blew up near a VAB (armored forward vehicle),” said Colonel Patrick Steiger, spokesman for the staff. One of the soldiers, seriously injured, was evacuated to a hospital in France. The other two were treated on site.
According to an AFP count, eighteen soldiers have been killed in Mali since Operation Serval in 2013, followed by Barkhane, which was extended to five countries in the Sahel in August 2014.
