In the meantime he was able to free himself. Then the perpetrators are said to have murdered him with knife wounds in the neck and choking.

They fled with $1,000 in cash and the victim’s bank card. The 60-year-old died at the scene.

For decades, the accused lived undisturbed at his place of residence in southern Hesse. He was arrested early last year. A fingerprint match in another case had returned a match.

The public prosecutor’s office assumes a murder out of greed and robbery resulting in death. As a result of the statute of limitations, a conviction for another offense is no longer possible.

The process is being heard before a juvenile court because the alleged perpetrator was still an adolescent at the time.

Because of the extensive and complicated taking of evidence, the court has so far scheduled eight days of hearings until mid-July.

The alleged accomplice is said to have fled to Turkey.
