Man wakes from 12-year coma after being nursed by elderly mum following car crash

A man who spent 12 years in a coma after a car crash has finally woken up – after his mum looked after him around the clock.

Wang Shuboa suffered catastrophic injuries in the 2006 accident, which happened when he was 36.

He spent more than a decade being cared for by Wei Mingying, who was at his side when he awoke.

It happened in Shouguang in eastern China.

Wei, aged 75, spent all her savings on her son's treatment, and told her she was eating for a month without eating.

She is now £ 13,000 in debt after being a result of huge medical bills.

Tearful Wei was at Wang's side when he opened his eyes, having spend years rising at 5am to wash, feed and tend to him.

His father died when he was young, meaning Wei was responsible for caring for him.

Although he is unable to speak, he has exchanged words with his mother.

She told Beijing News: "I just overjoyed." I hope he wants to make a full recovery.

"I never want to give up on him."
