Ruben Dias signed a six-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Ruben Dias finally officially became a new Manchester City player after completing his transfer process from Portuguese club Benfica.
Bought for a fee of £ 62m plus a potential £ 3.3million extra in bonuses, the 23-year-old center-back has signed a six-season contract at the Etihad Stadium.
As part of this deal, Nicolas Otamendi is heading the other way for a fee of £ 14 million, ending the Argentine’s five years of service to The Citizens.
Dias expressed his enthusiasm for a new adventure in England and working with coach Pep Guardiola.
“To have the opportunity to join a club like Manchester City is fantastic for me and I cannot refuse it,” he said on the club’s official website.
“Their success speaks for itself. They have been the dominant team in England in recent years, playing attacking football which I feel suits my game.”
“It is great to be part of such a talented squad as this and to be able to play for a world-class manager like Pep Guardiola, who has a proven track record of successfully developing young players like me.”
“I believe I can thrive here at a club whose ambitions match mine and I will give my all to succeed and win titles.”
The presence of a new center-back is City’s priority to patch up the fragility of their defense, which was again exposed in a 5-2 defeat against Leicester City last weekend.
Dias is the club’s third signing in the transfer window this season following Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and Ferran Torres from Valencia.
