Manchester United: in addition to Jong, Ten Hag aims for a second Dutchman

The future new Red Devils manager, Erik Ten Hag, would like to reform his Ajax Amsterdam winning duo: Frenkie de Jong-Matthijs De Ligt.

According to information from the British media The Sun, the Ajax coach, who will leave his post in the coming weeks to come to Manchester United, would intend to recruit a central defender: Matthijs De Ligt. Already tracked by Chelsea, the 22-year-old Dutchman, in bickering with his leaders regarding his future at the club, could leave this summer. Indeed, if Matthijs De Ligt refuses to extend his contract with Juventus, which ends in 2024, the Italian club could choose to part with the defender during the next transfer window so as not to relive a Paulo Dybala episode. Which would suit Erik Ten Hag’s plans.

Recruited in 2019, Matthijs De Ligt took some time to acclimatize to the Italian club, the first season in particular. But this year, the 22-year-old central defender is a major element of his team (40 games, 3 goals, 1 assist) and the future departure of Giorgio Chiellini does not frighten the decision-makers of the Italian club, reassured by the quality of the Dutchman, who has already taken over from the veteran in the eleven of Massimiliano Allegri.

Ambitious for his arrival at the Red Devils, Erik Ten Hag multiplies the tracks for the transfer window. In addition to Frenkie De Jong, therefore, who is followed by the Red Devils but who would not necessarily be thrilled by this track, the 52-year-old coach has several tracks in defense, in addition to Matthijs De Ligt (Gonçalo Ignacio, Nordi Mukiele, Borna Sosa), midfielder (Aurélien Tchouaméni) and outposts (Ousmane Dembélé, Victor Osimhen), while several players (Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, even Cristiano Ronaldo) are likely to leave this summer. Without the Champions League next season, however, it will be difficult for the Red Devils to fulfill all of their summer leads.
