Man “kidnaps” Amish TV and slams out Weird Al Yankovic’s parody “Amish Paradise”

A man “hijacked” the television in an Amish restaurant and used it to play Weird Al Yankovic’s parody “Amish Paradise”.

Angelica Smith, who describes herself as a “Christian, wife, mother and musician” shared a video on TikTok showing her and her family at a The Dutchman restaurant.

The chain, which claims to serve “real Amish cuisine,” has five restaurants in Ohio and one in Florida, but it wasn’t clear which one the family was visiting in the clip.

Smith, who claims she is a fan of the fried chicken on The Dutchman’s menu, titled the video, “If you hack the TV in an Amish restaurant”.

The clip, uploaded on Thursday June 3, shows her husband scrolling through his phone after apparently successfully connecting to the flat-screen TV in the lobby.

The couple suppress chuckles as Smith is heard saying, “Oh my god, he’s playing Amish Paradise.”

Yankovic’s parody song was released in 1996, inspired by the 1995 Coolio track Gangsta’s Paradise.

The video for “Amish Paradise” shows the singer with a wide-brimmed hat and black clothes pounding butter, driving a horse-drawn carriage and building a barn.

The music video can be seen on the restaurant television in Smith’s TikTok clip as the song’s striking intro can be heard.

Then Yankovic can be heard rapping: “Then we’ll party tonight like it’s 1699. We’ve spent most of our lives with it. Living in an Amish paradise. I’ve stirred butter once or twice. “

As the play continues, a Dutchman employee dressed in “traditional Amish” clothing can be seen looking at the television.

“She took a picture of the television,” reads a caption posted by Smith – replacing another caption that read, “When your husband hijacks the television in an Amish restaurant”.

Your video has been viewed more than 4.1 million times and received over 485,000 likes. Thousands of comments have been left on TikTok, with some viewers describing it as “hilarious” and others branding it as “exploitative”.
