Deep Silver and 5 Lives Studios (Satellite Reign) have announced the windbound maritime survival adventure set to set sail for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on August 28, 2020, and memories of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind waker wakes up. The publisher writes:“Windbound was developed by the Australian developers of 5 Lives Studios and is a beautiful rouge-like third-person adventure game. Windbound unfolds its fascination with the help of the elements hunting, exploration and crafting. Players slip into the role of Kara, who is stranded on an unknown island and not only has to learn how to adapt and survive, but also uncover the mysteries behind the forgotten islands on her journey.

Windbound is taking the survival genre in a new direction, focusing on nomadic hunting and exploration, along with unique boat building and immersive, tactical sailing experience. Thanks to the procedurally generated islands, dynamic wildlife and modular boat construction, Windbound offers almost endless replayability. “

The story says:“The Forbidden Islands are calling for you. Uncover their secrets!
Explore an unknown island after a shipwreck. Adapt and conquer land and dangerous seas to survive. As Kara, you are a warrior who has been hit by a heavy storm on the high seas and separated from her tribe. Delivered helpless to the wild lake, you will be washed up on the coast of the Forbidden Islands, a mysterious paradise.

Explore the diverse resources of the island without a boat, food or tools. Make tools and weapons with your will to survive. Hunt and defend yourself against the wild and fantastic beings of nature. Uncover secrets of the past as you explore more islands and isolated ruins, and get glimpses of the future. Solve the secret behind all of this and you may find more than just your way home. “

The key elements are:

  • Uncover secrets – embark on a personal journey and discover the history of the idyllic Forbidden Islands – each holds a key to a mystery or an unexpected discovery.
  • Explore as far as the eye can see – break towards the horizon, cross the islands – each with its own wildlife, landscape and challenges.
  • Use your environment – Search the undeveloped terrain of the islands for valuable resources that you need in the production of a huge range of tools, hunting weapons and for the advanced boat building. If resources are scarce, you should set sail.
  • Build your perfect boat – your boat is your closest companion on this trip. Make your very own sailboat wisely to face the insidious waters and travel from one island to the next. Construct your boat so that it can withstand even the strongest winds, monstrous waves and deadly sea creatures.

Studio co-founder Mitch Clifford also introduced the game in more detail on the PlayStation Blog:“Windbound takes place in a long-forgotten archipelago where an ancient civilization once resided. The game begins shortly after Kara – the protagonist – is separated from the rest of her fleet by a wild and mysterious storm.

She wakes up on the beach of a strange island, and the first thing to do is to secure her own survival before finally returning to the tribe. However, since the storm seems to surround the entire area, it quickly becomes clear that something unusual is happening on these islands with their strange buildings and monuments of a long-gone people.

Players will learn more about the history of this ancient civilization, their relationship with the sea and the mysterious sea monsters that continue to mischief under the ocean waves as they travel. Even though the focus is initially on survival, this world is still rich in materials that can be used to make objects that make the journey easier.

The long-term priority is to build seaworthy ships. First with simple canoes made of grass and later with ships with several hulls and sails, players can use the seemingly permanent wind to explore the unknown waters. However, the sea is not always friendly to them and they are by no means alone out there.

On their adventure, players will travel to various unique islands that offer a wide variety of environments and countless animal and plant species. No adventure will be the same, because the island groups are generated procedurally with every restart. There are different raw materials in every landscape type – from wild berries to previously unknown beasts. In order to really move forward, players need to make weapons and come up with new strategies to stop the threats to nature. “
