When her mother died, Marlijn was heavily pregnant. Her body entered ‘survival mode’ after her death, Marlijn said at the table with presenter Eva Jinek. “I didn’t get to that feeling. I lost her and nothing came.”
Marlijn continued acting and taking care of her newborn child. “I just kept going, but never got into that gut, into that feeling again.” She wanted to feel what her mother’s death did to her, the actress continued. “But the baby stopped me.”
The writing process changed that. For example, the director kept telling her that it had to be more personal, which made writing a difficult process. Now the presenter thinks it is ‘nice’ that she has experienced this. She wants to ‘honour’ her mother with the performance, Marlijn said.
