Marriott International has appointed Anthony Capuano as Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Stephanie Linnartz became the new president. The appointments of Capuano and Linnartz follow the unexpected passing of Marriott President and CEO Arne Sorenson on February 15, 2021.

Capuano began his career at Marriott in 1995 as part of the Market Planning and Feasibility team. Between 1997 and 2005, he led Marriott’s development efforts in the western United States and Canada. From 2005 to 2008, Capuano was Senior Vice President responsible for development in North America. In 2008, his area of responsibility was expanded to include the entire United States and Canada, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America. In 2009 he became Executive Vice President and Global Chief Development Officer.
Stephanie Linnartz takes on the role of President
As President, Stephanie Linnartz will be responsible for developing and executing all aspects of the company’s global consumer strategy. In addition, Linnartz will oversee Marriott’s global development organization, which is responsible for the strategic growth of the company’s 30 brands, as well as the global design and operations functions.

Prior to this appointment, Ms. Linnartz, 52, was Group President, Consumer Operations, Technology and Emerging Businesses, where she was responsible for brand, marketing, sales, revenue management, customer engagement, digital, information technology, emerging businesses and loyalty strategies. Linnartz played a key role in the acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts by Marriott and oversaw the integration of business-critical systems. In 2019, under her leadership, the company merged the Marriott and Starwood loyalty programs to create the world’s largest loyalty program in the hospitality industry.
