Master Alba Berlin shines directly – Bayern also wins | free press

Defending champion Alba Berlin and challenger FC Bayern Munich have underpinned their role as favorites in the basketball Bundesliga and clearly won their first playoff duels.

The winner of the main round from the capital won 114:89 (61:45) against old rival Brose Bamberg and showed an excellent offensive performance. In the series in best-of-five mode, the Berliners lead 1-0. After three previous defeats of the season, the Munich team beat their feared opponents Niners Chemnitz 77:53 (36:31). Whoever wins three games first reaches the semi-finals.

The best throwers from Berlin were Johannes Thiemann (19 points) and Jaleen Smith (16). Bamberg’s defense acted much too laxly for long stretches, the game, which resembled an offensive spectacle, was almost decided in the third quarter. Omar Prewitt scored 17 points for the guests.

Alba has already celebrated the twelfth league win in a row. “It was an embarrassing first half. It was disrespectful. We have to show that we deserve to play in these playoffs,” said Bamberg coach Oren Amiel at Magentasport.

Telekom Baskets Bonn had a much harder time, winning their first home game against the Hamburg Towers only after overtime with 100:98 (91:91, 41:42). The outstanding man of the game was Peter Jackson-Cartwright with 36 points. The match winner was Javontae Hawkins, who decided the game with a three point one second before the end – he had previously equalized in regular time. (dpa)
