Alpine Skiing World Cup. The Austrian gets his first victory on the 90th anniversary of Lauberhorn.

The 90th anniversary of Lauberhorn’s races in Wengen has started today with the combined Alpine race.

Matthias Mayer (AUT) has skied two perfect races at Wengen and gets his first victory in the Alpine Combined at Lauberhorn. The Austrian skier dominates the descent, closing 0.53s ahead of everyone else. In the slalom, Mayer not only tries to defend himself against technical skiers, but also attacks the track and in the second descent he scores the fourth best time.

“For me it has been very exciting, especially when I have seen Alexis Pinturault have a good career,” Mayer said. “He was getting closer and closer to the intermediate and was near the end, but I’m happy. I know I’ve done a good race in the slalom, but I didn’t know I could ski as fast as today. It’s a bit surprising to me, but great. ”

This allows him to finish just ahead of runner-up Alexis Pinturault (FRA), who narrowly loses his 10th Alpine Combined Victory by 0.07s. The French athlete is almost a second faster than all his competitors in the slalom, but still it is not enough to jump to the first position, after closing the descent in 19th place.

Third place goes to Victor Muffat-Jeandet (FRA), who has skied fast in both disciplines and gets his fourth podium in the Wengen Alpine Combined.

Alexis Pinturault (FRA) continues to lead the classification of the Alpine Combined and thanks to his second place he moves Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) from the top of the general classification, with 2 points of advantage.
