The damage from the environmental disaster in Norilsk, where thousands of tons of fuel got into the soil and water, should be compensated at the expense of Norilsk Nickel shareholders or from other sources, but without harming budgets. This was stated by the chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, the meeting was broadcast on the channel of the upper chamber on the YouTube service.
“You have to ask why the shareholders of this largest enterprise treat their country this way. Why, instead of investing in development, investing in environmental protection, billions of dollars are paid in the form of dividends. The amount of dividends is larger than the budget of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, ”said Matvienko.
She also noted that she was negotiating with the government on compensation for damage.
“The government will do everything to ensure that this amount of damage, compensation for damage does not cause a second damage to the regional and municipal budgets. For the damage to be repaid – let it be determined by the government – at the personal expense of shareholders or at the expense of other sources, but not at the expense of income tax, which goes to regional budgets, ”said the chairman of the chamber.
