Message from the Government on the occasion of the appearance of the lunar crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan: The Head of Government calls on Nigeriens to show solidarity with the weakest, social cohesion, forgiveness and tolerance

As salama alekum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

My Dear Compatriots,

By the grace of Allah, the lunar crescent was seen today in several localities in our country. Consequently, the Islamic Ummah will observe, from tomorrow, the fasting of the holy month of Ramadan.

This year again, the Ramadan fast comes in a context characterized by multiple challenges. These are mainly challenges related to the critical security situation due to the actions of armed terrorist and criminal groups that continue to attack civilian populations, attacking their lives, dispossessing them of their livelihoods through kidnappings. people for ransoms, forced levies and cattle rustling. I salute the determination and efficiency of the elements of our Defense and Security Forces, and bow down piously before the memory of the fallen soldiers. I will never cease to remind you that safety is everyone’s business. This is why I invite you to a sustained and permanent collaboration with our Defense and Security Forces.

My Dear Compatriots,

The security challenge has direct impacts on the food and humanitarian situation. Indeed, insecurity in some localities has hampered the execution of development projects, limited access to basic social services, assistance to people in need and humanitarian access. Furthermore, the coming lean season could reduce the population’s capacity for resilience in a context of unjustified increases in food prices.

The Government is committed to supporting populations in need of food assistance, internally displaced persons, returnees and refugees, through various actions such as food and nutritional assistance, targeted free distributions, sales at moderate prices of food, cash transfers, support for agricultural inputs and livestock feed, etc. It is in this logic that I launched, on March 10, the National Response Plan to Food and Nutritional Insecurity and the Humanitarian Response Plan of our partners. As it has always done, the Government will pursue dialogue with economic operators in order to reverse the upward trend in the prices of everyday consumer products and preserve consumer wallets.

My Dear Compatriots,

On this eve of the blessed month of Ramadan, the President of the Republic, Head of State, His Excellency MOHAMED BAZOUM, has a very special thought for our compatriots in vulnerable or precarious situations. Ramadan is an opportunity for all of us to show more sharing, solidarity and benevolence towards the weakest, towards the most vulnerable, towards those who need assistance to spend the month of fasting in of humanity and dignity.

I also invite you to multiply prayers and invocations in accordance with the tradition of the Prophet Mohamed (peace and salvation be upon him), so that Allah descends his Mercy and Mercy on our country, on our community and the world in its together. I invite you, finally, to cultivate, on a daily basis, social cohesion, forgiveness and tolerance, so many positive values that the Holy Koran teaches us.

On behalf of the President of the Republic and the Government, I wish all the Muslim faithful an excellent month of Ramadan.

May these moments of recollection and devotion bring us greater peace, security and collective well-being. May Allah grant us the best reward for our acts of faith and worship. Amine.

As salama alekum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.”
