Messi becomes Saudi Arabia’s new tourism ambassador

Lionel Messi was unveiled as Saudi Arabia’s new tourism ambassador, reports Arab News.

The PSG striker flew to Jeddah earlier this week and it was photographed by the Saudi authorities’ official social media accounts.

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb tweeted: “I am delighted to welcome Lionel Messi to Saudi Arabia. We look forward to you exploring the treasure of the Red Sea, the season in Jeddah and our ancient history. This This isn’t his first visit to the kingdom, and it won’t be the last.”

Messi has been to Jeddah at least once: in 2020 the city hosted the Spanish Super Cup and Messi was part of the FC Barcelona team that took part.

Last year it was reported that Cristiano Ronaldo was offered a $6 million-a-year contract to become the face of Saudi Arabia’s tourism. However, he turned down the offer.
