The Economist – Mexico City
The Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico begins in July 2022 with a cumulative of 6.58 million confirmed infections, while the total official number of deaths from this disease is 325,747 deaths, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
As of July 1, the Daily Technical Report on the progress of the epidemic at the national level detailed that in the last 24 hours, 24,087 new cases and 31 new deaths caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus were registered.
The distribution by sex in the confirmed cases shows a predominance in women (52.4%). The overall median age is 38 years old, according to the technical report.
It should be remembered that on June 7, the Ministry of Health resumed the daily publication of its daily technical reports on Covid-19 due to the increases in infections registered at the end of May, mostly attributed to the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants. of Omicron.
The Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, detailed last Tuesday, June 28, that Mexico has spent 10 epidemiological weeks with increases in coronavirus infections, however, he stressed that the levels of deaths and hospitalizations due to this disease have not recorded significant increases.
It should be considered that this current week is epidemiological week 26 and ends next Saturday, July 2.
Vaccination against Covid-19
The federal government began on June 27 the vaccination day against the coronavirus for boys and girls from 5 to 11 years of age with the pediatric doses of Pfizer.
Each entity will implement its vaccination plan. In the case of Mexico City, the capital authorities decided to start with the immunization of those who are 11 years old or will reach this age during 2022.
