Legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield designed the sneakers, reportedly for free, to boost the brand’s influence in pop culture. He also helped design a more modern bat suit for the film, making the superhero uniform more muscular and athletic than previous ones.

Hatfield once told Complex that the shoes were more than just a cool prop. “It was also a performance shoe because Michael Keaton – and his stunt doubles – really had to do a whole lot in that product.” In all, about eight pairs of Bat Boots were made for the first Batman, some for Keaton, others for his stunt doubles. The bat symbol that Keaton wore on his chest was also auctioned, as was the suit worn by Jim Carrey as the Riddler in Batman Forever; Alicia Silverstone’s ‘Batman & Robin’ Batgirl Belt Is Still Up for Sale; its value is estimated at 4000 to 6000 US dollars.
