ALLEGAN, Mich. – Residents in the West Michigan community on social media reported that many cats were slaughtered around their town – which prompted the rumors surrounding a cat killer.
Members of the public Allegan said some cats had been found in recent weeks, according to WWMT.
Melissa Gilbert, gas station manager Shell in Allegan, told WWMT that a man discovered a cat's body buried in a bag while searching for the dumper for cans and bottles.
"There are no outside cameras to do this scene. There was nothing they can do to help us," Gilbert said to WWMT.
Residents brought information to Allegan's Facebook page, reporting that it was not the only incident of cats buried in the community.
Allegan's police said there were no reports of a cat incident, but Gilbert's claims say police did not report.
“I think this is because we have no way to figure out who actually did it, and maybe that's not what they can do,” said Gilbert. “I am sorry that someone would do this on an animal. It's not okay. "
Its killing or torture animals is felony in Michigan and is punishable up to 10 years in prison, fined $ 5,000 and up to 500 hours of community service.
