Microsoft Phasing Out Cortana as a Standalone App in Windows

Microsoft has announced that Cortanayour virtual assistant, will no longer be supported as a standalone application in Windows starting at the end of 2023.

However, they clarify that this decision only affects the version of Cortana for desktop, as the assistant will continue to be available in mobile versions of Teams and Outlook, as well as Microsoft Teams rooms and screens.

To ease the transition to other options, Microsoft lists some alternatives that can be used instead of Cortana.

One of them is Voice Access in Windows 11which allows you to control the computer and type using only your voice, with commands to open applications, switch between them, browse the Internet and compose emails.

This feature does not require an internet connection and has advanced speech recognition.

Besides, Microsoft mention other recent products that use artificial intelligence of the company.

On the one hand, there is Bing powered by ChatGPT, which improves the search and response capacity of the search engine of Microsoft. On the other hand, it is Microsoft 365 Copilot, designed for the company’s productivity platform, and Windows Copilot, integrated into the operating system of Windows.

With these advances in AI, Microsoft seeks to offer users alternative and enhanced options for performing tasks and accessing productivity tools on Windows 11despite the removal of support for Cortana as a standalone app.
