Midland’s climate is subtropical, with fairly mild winters and very hot and sunny summers.

The city is located in West Texas, that is, the arid zone, at 860 meters above sea level, is windy and is exposed to air mass confrontations that provoke sudden changes in temperature.

On winterFrom December to February, the days are quite mild, but at night the temperature drops a lot.

Also, sometimes there can be cold and snow episodes. On average, 12 cm of snow falls per year. On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops to around -10 ° C, but sometimes even lower. The record is -24 ° C, recorded in February 1985. In February 2021 the thermometer reached -19 ° C.

On the other hand, the air masses of Mexico can raise the temperature to 25 ° C or more even in the middle of winter.

The summerFrom June to September, it is very hot and sunny, with a few thunderstorms. Despite the altitude, Midland is a particularly hot city. Sometimes it can get very hot even in late April and October.

On the hottest days of the year, the temperature reaches 40/42 ° C. The record is 46.5 ° C, recorded at the end of May 2000.

In 2020, the temperature reached 38.5 ° C in late April, 40 ° C in early May, 44 ° C in July, and 36.5 ° C on October 10 and 11. But in late October there was an early snowfall.

From April to June (and more rarely in the fall) tornadoes can develop (although we are in a relatively protected area, since tornadoes develop more easily in east-central Texas).

The medium temperature of the coldest month (January) is 6.6 ° C, that of the warmest month (July) is 27.9 ° C. Here are the average temperatures.

The rainfall they amount to 370 mm per year: they are therefore quite rare. In the less rainy months (January, March, April, December) 15 mm of rain falls, in the wettest months (every month from May to October) it falls 45 mm. Here is the average rainfall.
