MEXICO CITY – Before June 6, 2022, more than 8,000 military personnel will assume control of the security and surveillance of the main airports and highways in Mexico.

According to a plan by the National Defense Secretariat, these troops will be part of the Military Police and will relieve the civilian agents who were in charge of 55 national and international air terminals and 202 highway stations.

The first highways that will pass to military control are those located in the states of Guanajuato and Jalisco, according to the agency reported to Mexican media.

During the next 10 months, Sedena will mobilize its troops to cover all the airports and highways of the 32 states of the country.
