Minister of Health Unpacks Jokowi’s Reason for Asking for PCR Test Price of IDR 300 thousand

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed that the price of the PCR swab test at the airport be lowered to Rp. 300 thousand. Not only that, Jokowi also ordered that the validity period be 3×24 hours.

So, will there be subsidies from the government related to the policy plan?

“Will it be subsidized? The government does not plan to provide subsidies. Because if we look at the price, it is sufficient,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a press statement, Tuesday (26/10/2021).

According to BGS, Budi Gunadi Sadikin’s nickname, the price of a PCR swab test at an Indonesian airport is Rp. 900 thousand, which is in the category of the cheapest 25 percent among world airports.

“So if it is lowered to Rp. 300 thousand, it might be 10 percent the cheapest quarter compared to prices among world airports,” said BGS.

Furthermore, he admitted that the price of the PCR swab test in India was Rp. 160,000, the cheapest in the world. All of this cannot be separated from the production process of the PCR swab test equipment and materials carried out in India.
