Ministry of Health approves Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine

The Ministry of Health granted conditional approval on June 12 to the Comirnaty vaccine manufactured by Pfizer Manufacturing Belgium NV and Germany’s BioNTech Manufacturing GmbH for emergency use in the fight against COVID-19.

This is the 4e vaccine to receive such authorization, after Oxford / AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and Vero Cell from Sinopharm.

According to the approval decision, the vaccine comes in the form of doses of 0.3 ml of mRNA molecules protected by lipid nanoparticles.

The package is described as trays of 195 vials, each vial containing six doses of vaccine.

The ministry asked the Vietnamese Medicines Administration to authorize the importation of the Comirnaty vaccine and to monitor its quality in accordance with the regulations in force.

The Administration of Science, Technology and Training is responsible for selecting the qualified units to assess the safety and efficacy of the Comirnaty vaccine based on the comments of the ministry’s advisory board on the use of vaccines and products. biologicals during use.

The General Department of Preventive Medicine is responsible for vaccination against Cormirnaty while the National Institute of Vaccines and Biologicals must test and issue a certificate for the vaccine before it is placed on the market.

Previously, the Department of Health said it had negotiated an agreement to supply 31 million doses of Pfizer and that the first shipment could likely arrive by July.

Last week, during a meeting with the UNICEF representative in Vietnam, Rana Flowers, the Minister of Health, Nguyên Thanh Long, also expressed his request for the COVAX Facility – the global vaccine sharing initiative – provide the Pfizer vaccine for Vietnamese children aged 12 to 18.
