Ministry of the Interior: We do not want encryption prohibitions

The Federal Interior Ministry has responded to the accusation that it wants to force providers of chat services such as WhatsApp to decode the communication of their users. The federal government adheres to the principle of "security through encryption and security despite encryption," said a spokesman. However, in order for terrorists and gang members not to be able to completely isolate their communication by using encrypted messenger services, the providers would have to allow "state access as a legally regulated exception".
