After more than a month of absence, King Mohammed VI returned to Morocco Monday night, learned this Tuesday AFP from his entourage. Moroccan media said that the monarch’s private plane had landed in Casablanca (west), the economic capital, adding that it was expected Tuesday in Fez (north) for official activities.

Mohammed VI did not return to Morocco since his operation of the heart, on February 26, in a Parisian clinic . Aged 54, Mohammed VI, who reigns since 1999, stays very regularly in France, where he owns a castle.

Rumors on social networks and interrogations in diplomatic circles

He had undergone this day a heart operation for “heart rhythm disorder”. A communique issued at the time indicated that the monarch would resume “his normal activities without any restrictions” after a period of rest “prescribed by his doctors”, without further details.

One of his last official appearances at Morocco went back to the end of January.

This long absence has sparked many rumors about social networks, but also questions in diplomatic circles and business circles, given the king’s broad prerogatives. An umpire over parties, Mohammed VI holds the upper hand over foreign affairs, defense, security or key sectors of the economy. The big shipyards of the country are traditionally inaugurated or launched by the monarch.

Mohammed VI did not go to the 29th summit of the Arab League in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, where Morocco was finally represented by Prince Moulay Rachid, brother of the king.

The Moroccan press also says it is expected on April 23 in Brazzaville, Congo, to participate in a summit on climate.
