It is a happy trainer who appeared in press conference this Wednesday evening at the end of the great Parisian success in Monegasque land (4-1). Thomas Tuchel welcomed the efforts made by his players for this revenge, three days after Sunday's spectacular draw at Parc des Princes (3-3).
What are the differences between Sunday's draw and this win against the same opponent?
THOMAS TUCHEL. We had the opportunity to win on Sunday. But we have adjusted little things, details: the management of spaces, ball losses and defensive coverage of our attack. There it was braver, tighter. We deserve to win.
So we don't ask you any questions about the system…
It would be brave, huh (to laugh)! It is not a question of structure. I really like the structure. I am a structured boy. We need this to attack and defend, to protect us. Sunday's result was not due to the scheme (Editor's note: 4-4-2) but risk management. We had no doubts about our abilities.
You have made four changes in the middle and defense. Are you satisfied with the entries from Kurzawa, Kouassi, Dagba and Kimpembe?
We were forced to change three players (Marquinhos, Bernat and Meunier were absent). Layvin (Kurzawa), Colin (Dagba) have achieved good things. Presko (Kimpembe) brought his mentality, his ability to defend by advancing. As for Tanguy (Kouassi), he brought in size. It was necessary to face this adversary. We trust him. He played Sunday with the under 19s and was perhaps a little tired.
Getting back ahead of OM, second in the standings, was that also the objective?
The goal is always to win. That (Editor's note: the gap in the ranking) is the side effect. I want us to be the best team in every game.
How do you rate Di Maria's performance?
He was exceptional in the first half. He won a lot of duels, gave a decisive pass. Sometimes he gives too much and loses patience a little.
Is Navas' presence a great guarantee?
In management, yes, it is clearer. He's number one. Sergio (Rico) is number two. Keylor is a super cool guy, a very strong guardian. It gives confidence. We are more peaceful. It is an advantage not to have to manage the situation of the guards.
The video arbitration took more than three minutes to validate the first goal of Kylian Mbappé. Is the system annoying you?
We discussed this thing with UEFA. Everyone has the same opinion: the rule is fair but the system is manual. This means that there are possible differences (between matches and actions) because the offside line is placed with the hand on the images. It's not 100% sure and it can decide a match. We would like the line to be wider to avoid mistakes, make faster decisions and give the advantage to attackers.
