"We know that this recall has caused pet parents to be seriously anxious and their pet's well-being may have been compromised," Hill said in a press release.

To meet this challenge, the company is expanding its consulting service hours and will pay for diagnostic screening for toxic levels of vitamin D. In addition, pet owners will be reimbursed for the medical expenses associated with consuming the food.

Last year there was a recall campaign for vitamin D dog food, which involved several brands. This recall was later expanded.

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs. However, consuming too much may cause vomiting, loss of appetite or increased drinking, thirst or urination.
