More influenza, less corona – but increase in BQ.1 immune escape variants

The number of corona-related deaths continues to fall. 216 people died on Thursday, compared to 233 on the same day the week before. This means that 155,000 people have died with or from Corona since the outbreak of the pandemic in Germany. In total, the authorities counted 36 million infections.

The World Health Organization has also seen a decrease in corona deaths since winter 2021/22. In the first week of November, 9,400 corona deaths were counted worldwide, while there were still 75,000 in February, the previous sad record, according to the WHO. This corresponds to a decrease of almost 90 percent. There were 2.1 million new infections worldwide in the 44th calendar week, although the number of unreported cases is likely to be significantly higher here as well.
