More jobs and more money in care

The number of employees in clinics was higher than ten years ago: at the end of 2020, a good 486,000 employees in hospitals in Germany were working in nursing. That was 18 percent more than in 2010. Almost half of the employees worked part-time.

The number of employees in nursing homes and outpatient care grew even more. Around 954,000 nursing staff worked there in 2019. That was 40 percent more than in 2009. More recent figures are not yet available to the office. The part-time rate was also higher in this area: almost two-thirds worked marginally or part-time.

Earnings also went up: in 2021, full-time specialists in hospitals and homes earned an average of 34 percent more than in 2011.
