Mumbai: The strong Mumbai Indians won the Women’s Premier League. In the last league match, Mumbai defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets and reclaimed the top spot in the league. Mumbai overcame the target of 126 runs set by Bangalore in 16.3 overs with the loss of six wickets. Score: Bangalore Royal Challengers 125 for nine in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians 129 for six in 16.3 overs.
With this win, Mumbai overtook Delhi to top the points table. If Delhi lose in the final match, Mumbai can secure the top spot. If Delhi wins, Mumbai may lose its position. The top team will directly qualify for the finals.
After losing the toss and batting first, Bangalore built an improved total on the strength of Richa Ghosh who scored 29 runs off 13 balls and Elyse Perry who scored 29 runs off 38 balls. Heroine Smriti Manthana scored 24 runs. None of the other stars could shine.
Amelia Kerr took three wickets conceding just 22 runs in four overs for Mumbai. EC Wong and Nat Cyver Brunt took two wickets each.
In reply, openers Hailey Mathews and Yastika Bhatia gave a good start for Mumbai. Both added 53 runs for the first wicket. Yastika scored 30 runs. Hayley Mathews scored 24 runs. But Amelia Kerr saved Mumbai Indians in the last overs who lost quick wickets.
The player scored 31 runs off 27 balls to lead the team to victory. Pooja Vastrakar also did well with 19 runs at the tail end. Mumbai won with 21 balls to spare. Kanika Ahuja took two wickets for Bangalore while Meagan Shutt, Shreyanka Patil, Elyse Perry and Shobhana Asha took one wicket each.
