European independent organization EuroNCAP summed up the results of 2022. According to experts, last year during crash tests they wrecked a record number of cars, and based on the data they got, they chose the five safest cars in various categories. They included american and Chinese models, and some of them can already be bought in Russia, while others may well reach our country in the near future, including through the parallel import scheme.
Hyundai Ioniq 6, a Korean sedan, won in the Large Family Car category. Officially, this car is not presented on the Russian market, but domestic dealers will certainly begin to bring it to our country under the parallel import scheme. According to the results of crash tests, the car received the maximum safety rating – five stars. The only complaint that experts have about the car is the high risk of a neck injury for a passenger in a rear impact. The test organizers had no other questions about the car. As a result, the car received a very high 97% for the protection of the driver and adult passengers. Child safety was rated at 87% and pedestrian safety at 66%. Also, a high 90% was received by the work of car security systems.
The Chinese hatchback Ora Funky Cat, which just debuted in Europe, took first place in the Small Family Car class. The novelty is equipped with a 143-horsepower electric motor on the front axle and can travel 500 kilometers on a single charge. The Ora brand belongs to the Great Wall concern and has recently begun the registration process in Russia. Therefore, the chances that a small Chinese hatchback will soon reach our market are very high. The Ora Funky Cat passed the Euro NCAP crash tests last September. The car received five stars with a score of 92% for adult safety, 83% for children, and 74% for pedestrians. The work of electronic “assistants” was rated at 93%. The main complaint is the high risk of chest injury in the front passenger in a frontal collision. For a pedestrian, the side pillars and the headlight area of the car are the most dangerous.
Another Chinese car in the ranking of the safest cars according to Euro NCAP is the WEY Coffee 01. This model became the winner in the Large Crossover category. In Europe, the car is already offered with a 476 hp hybrid powertrain. The WEY brand is also owned by the Great Wall concern. Representatives of this brand have repeatedly stated their intention to be present on the Russian market. They did not name the exact dates, but emphasized that this should happen no later than 2025. According to the results of crash tests, the Chinese crossover was awarded five safety stars. The car received a rating of 91% for protecting adults and 87% for children. Driver assistance systems that ensure safe driving were rated at 94%, and the car received 79% on the basis of a test that determines how much a car can be traumatic for pedestrians. Readings taken from the dummies used in the tests showed a moderate risk of chest injury in an adult passenger, who sits in front.
American electric car Tesla Model S won the Best Executive Car class. Experts rated the protection of adults at 94% and children at 91%. Driver assistance systems that ensure safe driving received a very high 98%, and the car was awarded 85% in a test that determines how dangerous a car can be for pedestrians. The main complaint is that in a frontal collision with a non-moving obstacle, there is a high probability of a serious chest injury to the driver. At the same time, the front pillars of the car are a great danger to pedestrians. According to the organizers of the test, the car demonstrated a high level of protection for children in all types of collisions. The result is five stars for safety.
The “green” liftback, which entered the conveyor in 2012 and is still being produced to this day, is regularly updated. For example, not so long ago, the car received a 17-inch display with a resolution of 2200 × 1300. Thanks to a powerful on-board computer, most modern games can be played on the screen. Another Tesla model in the ranking of the safest cars – ModelY. Experts put this electric car in first place in the Small Crossover class. Tesla Model Y is not officially delivered in Russia. However, this does not prevent dealers from bringing this model to our country privately. The price of a car varies from 5,700,000 to 7,695,000 rubles. depending on modification. Experts rated the safety of adults at 97%, children – at 87%, other road users – at 82%, and 98% for electronic “assistants”. Experts noted a very low risk of injury to the driver and passengers in all types of collisions. At the same time, the area of the side pillars is a great danger for pedestrians. That didn’t stop the electric crossover from getting the highest safety score.
All five cars mentioned above were named the safest cars in 2022. Some of them can already be bought in Russia, while others may well reach our country in the near future, including through the parallel import scheme. Thus, the safety of cars on the roads of Russia will be improved, and the risk of injury in the event of an accident will be reduced.
