National day: Emmanuel Macron’s message to the Belgians (video)

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the festive activities traditionally set to celebrate July 21 will not take place.

LFrench President Emmanuel Macron wished to send “a message of friendship” to the Belgians for the national holiday, this July 21. He expressed his good wishes in a video recorded shortly before the conclusion of a European summit which will have lasted nearly five days in the Belgian capital.

In the middle of a European summit

“Hello everyone, it is July 21, it is 4:30 am and we are in the office of the French delegation a few minutes – I believe it, I hope it, I think it – to finalize these discussions which , now for nearly five days, occupies us for the European budget and this recovery plan ”, declares in front of camera an Emmanuel Macron with tired eyes.

“But I do not forget that it is also the Belgian national holiday and therefore I wanted to send a message of friendship to all our Belgian friends”, continues the French president. “Thank you for welcoming us so regularly for our summits, our European councils, thank you for hosting so many meetings and so many institutions, thank you also for the friendship which unites our two peoples”, underlines the leader.

“The last few months have been difficult for all of us, they are still difficult in many places in Belgium, and on July 21 I wanted to send you all a message of friendship, happy birthday! “Concludes Emmanuel Macron, after a video message of just under a minute posted around 5:00 am on the Twitter network.
