A special highlight was on the program this week for Loebe and the other three Americans from the southern region of Hanover. They and their host families were invited to Berlin by the local CDU member of the Bundestag, Tilman Kuban, and taken through the catacombs of the Bundestag. In addition to an intensive discussion with Kuban in English and a tour of the Reichstag building, a final joint lunch was on the agenda. “It’s great that Tilman Kuban took so much time for us,” said Loebe, pleased about the special insights.
For the young man from Pennsylvania it was his first visit to the German capital and so in conversation with Kuban many questions about parliamentary work, the future of German-American friendship and the opportunity to participate in it were exchanged. “My stay abroad in New Zealand had a great impact on me personally, so I am happy to be able to support the parliamentary sponsorship program – both by inviting the American participants in the exchange program to Berlin and by accompanying young people from my constituency to the USA.” , made clear Tilman Kuban, who is accompanying the teacher Lisa Gottowik on her year in America this year.
Pupils and young professionals between the ages of 16 and 23 can apply to take part in the PPP exchange programme. The application period for the coming year begins in spring 2023. More information is available at www.bundestag.de/ppp and in Tilman Kuban’s office at Tilman.Kuban.wk(at)bundestag.de.
