Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The Jakarta Survey Institute (LSJ) stated that DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan received the highest negative sentiment on social media. On the other hand, the general chairman of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto received the highest positive sentiment from the public despite being the target of ridicule.

Negative sentiment towards Anies reached 25.6 percent. Another figure who received a significant negative sentiment was the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo at 18.3 percent.

LSJ assesses that negative sentiment towards Anies and Ganjar is high because their supporters attack each other’s opinions on social media. Then successively followed by Chairman of the Democratic Party AHY 7.9 percent and Chairman of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani 5.7 percent.

“Meanwhile, negative sentiment towards Prabowo is 0.8 percent, Sandiaga 0.7 percent, Airlangga 1.7 percent, and Ridwan Kamil 2.4 percent. This is relatively low,” said LSJ Research Director Fetra Ardianto, Sunday (24/7).

On the other hand, Fetra said Anies Baswedan had a high level of conversation on social media. Conversations related to Anies amounted to 88,419. In second place was followed by Puan Maharani with 72 thousand conversations, Ganjar Pranowo with 65 thousand conversations and Prabowo Subianto with 62 thousand.

Anies is also considered to have high engagement on social media. engagement here is assessed as all forms of interaction from content on the Internet such as likes, comments, quotes, retweets, and shares. Anies’ total engagement on social media is 559 thousand.

“This is because since the 2017 DKI Pilgub, Anies already has his own social media team, both organic and formed, or what we usually call the Muslim Cyber Army,” he said.

Positive Sentiment

Meanwhile, from the results of the LSJ survey, positive sentiment towards Prabowo is more than 60 percent of netizens. According to Fetra, there are three factors that cause positive sentiments towards Prabowo to excel.

First, Prabowo is often considered the best performing minister according to almost all survey institutions. The second factor is Prabowo’s electability level, which is always in the top position in various research institutes’ releases.

Third, Prabowo got the ‘underdog effect’ from ridicule and scornful comments from a handful of national figures such as Jusuf Kalla and Zulfan Lindan.

“Prabowo’s elegant way of responding to any negative comments against him, including ridicule and sarcastic comments from JK and Zulfan Lindan, has proven to actually increase the sympathy and appreciation of the wider public for the General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party,” he said.

“Prabowo’s positive sentiment position is far above other figures who often appear on survey boards,” said Fetra.

Meanwhile, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil was in second place with positive sentiment from netizens at 32.2 percent, Ganjar Pranowo at 25.1 percent.

Meanwhile, DKI Governor Anies Baswedan is in fifth position with a positive sentiment of 20.2 percent. Followed by Puan Maharani 17.9 percent, Airlangga Hartarto 10.8 percent, and Sandiaga Uno 8.9 percent.

LSJ research uses the approach natural language processing (NLP) to extract the opinions or conversations of netizens in text form.

The analysis is carried out using keywords that are often published by mainstream research institutions, such as “Prabowo Subianto”, “Ganjar Pranowo”, “Anies Baswedan”, and so on.

The dataset was obtained for the period 10 to 20 July 2022 by extraction technique knowledge big data.
