The new mutation in the virus is similar to swine flu, which appeared in Mexico in 2009 and quickly spread around the world. In the Czech Republic, almost 2,500 people became infected and 102 of them died. But for a Chinese virus called G4 EA H1N1, scientists have found some changes. The BBC portal informs about it.
Experts have already shown that the virus can be transmitted from pigs to humans. According to them, several workers in slaughterhouses and meat processing plants became infected. The new virus, like the “normal” flu, attacks the respiratory system and current vaccines against it are not effective.
According to the research team, this type does not currently pose a direct threat, but it has “all the prerequisites to cause another pandemic”. If it turns out that the virus can spread from person to person, it will only be a matter of time. In China, therefore, they are already introducing measures in the meat industry.
“We are currently focusing on coronavirus and that is good. But we must not stop monitoring for new potentially dangerous viruses. We should definitely not ignore this new flu virus,” said Professor Kin-Chow Chang, who was studying the virus with his team.
Swine flu has not completely disappeared, it has appeared in the Czech Republic in recent years. Watch the TV Nova report:
